eco friendly resort

Novotel Forest Resort Creswick is setting an environmental example for golf courses and other resorts nationally. The Resort was established in line with an environmental philosophy focused on long-term sustainability in energy and water conservation and with regard to its traditional owners.

As a golf course has a considerable year-round demand for water, drought-tolerant indigenous grasses have been planted and fairways, greens and tees received green minded planning to reduce unnecessary irrigation demands.

The Resort will also install a state of the art micro reactor water treatment plant. The new water treatment plant will be one of the first of its type in Australia and the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) in Victoria has approved it. The micro plant will form the 'central processor' of three sources of water at the Resort which include harvested rainwater, bore water and wastewater.

The micro plant uses a bio-reactor which operates by creating different natural environments in separate zones where micro-organisms can treat different pollutants and waste and output drinkable-quality bore water. This bore water can be added to 'polished' storm water and treated wastewater generated by the hotel and residential areas. It is then used for irrigation of the golf course.
